'Brilliant': Newcastle coach is now really pleased with how 19-year-old player's loan spell is going

Newcastle United are trying to nurture the next generation of talent using the loan system, and Peter Ramage is very happy with how one Toon youngster is developing.

Peter Ramage works alongside Newcastle icon Shola Ameobi, acting as the club’s assistant player loans manager. And he has been speaking about some of the exciting young talent that the Magpies have right now.

One of those players is Garang Kuol, who is enduring a miserable second loan spell away from St James’ Park. But all is not lost, with Ramage believing he still has what it takes to develop into a first-team player at Newcastle United.

And the same will be hoped for Yankuba Minteh, who is enjoying a much better season out on loan.

The 19-year-old signed for Newcastle last summer, and was immediately loaned out to Feyenoord. That was an early sign of his talent, as the Dutch side were also competing in the Champions League alongside Newcastle.

Minteh has gone on to do really well at Feyenoord, and Ramage is really pleased with how the loan spell is going.

Peter Ramage is happy with Yankuba Minteh’s loan away from Newcastle

Ramage has spoke to iNews about Minteh’s development this season, and believes it could help them with future loan deals.

“He’s [Minteh] a great kid and he’s taken to it like a duck to water but there’s so much work that has gone on behind the scenes,” he said.

“Feyenoord have been brilliant with him and we visit every four to six weeks. We’re in constant communication with Yankuba, we still treat him as a player who is coming through our academy in terms of reviews, analysis, clips and making sure he’s getting any information the manager wants to get to him.

“It’s been a good experience for us working with Feyenoord because the hope is that going down the line we’ll be bringing in more Yankuba Minteh’s and they’ll be going out to Champions League clubs and top European clubs.”

Yankuba Minteh has done brilliantly for Feyenoord

It is excellent to hear how beneficial this loan spell at Feyenoord has been for Minteh. He has really excelled in Rotterdam, leading to Toon fans being excited to see what he is capable of in black and white.

The teenager is enjoying a real rich vein of form, and has provided five goal contributions in his last four games, with one goal resulting in him winning an award.

Minteh’s numbers are excellent, scoring eight goals and providing three assists in all competitions.

Toon officials are happy with his development, and will be taking a look at him in pre-season.

This loan could help Newcastle in the future

Not only is Minteh’s performances good for him, but it is also good for the future of a club. It appears that Newcastle have built up a good relationship with Feyenoord, and that can only benefit them in the future.

It should allow the club to send more players there, as Feyenoord will have more trust in the players they are getting from Newcastle. As for the Magpies, they can trust that their players will get minutes and be given space to grow.

And at a time when profit and sustainability is a real issue, it is vital that Newcastle United develop their own players rather than constantly having to splash out on ready-made stars.
