'It's a no-brainer': TalkSPORT pundit now says what Chelsea have to do with Romelu Lukaku

Despite playing his football in Italy with AS Roma this season, Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has been a talking point in England recently.

Romelu Lukaku started in Belgium’s 2-2 draw with England at Wembley on Tuesday and provided a beautiful assist to Youri Tielemans.

Overall, it has been quite a good campaign for the 30-year-old, who has scored 18 goals in 37 appearances for Roma.

That is more than what Chelsea‘s current first-choice striker Nicolas Jackson has managed, with the Senegal international netting 12 times in 32 outings.

Former Premier League striker Darren Bent has now shared whether he thinks Chelsea should hold on to Lukaku or sell him in the summer. It has been claimed that Todd Boehly is hoping to shift the Belgian to a Saudi Arabian club.

Darren Bent urges Chelsea to keep hold of Romelu Lukaku

For Bent, Chelsea retaining Lukaku’s services is a “no-brainer”.

Speaking about the centre-forward on talkSPORT, Bent said: “He’s always going to score goals. If you can get him back on a free, for me, it’s a no-brainer. But then he’s not at my football club. It’s a free, you haven’t got to buy him.

“For me, it’s a no-brainer, but I get it. Chelsea fans are probably looking back to the interview he did and how disrespectful he was to the club, and some of them just can’t let it go and I get that.

“I can see that side of the argument, but if you’re looking at buying a centre-forward for 80, 90 million and you’ve got one there on a free… and listen, the conversation has to come with him and Poch. If somehow they can fix that relationship and then save that 80, 90 million on a position they might need, it’s not the worst decision in the world.”

What has Romelu Lukaku said about his future?

Lukaku was asked about his future earlier this month and whether he wanted to remain at Roma.

“I don’t want to cause controversy in England,” the Belgium international told Sky Sport Italia (via Football Italia). “I have to be intelligent about this.”

Lukaku’s overall goal record is really impressive. In his senior career, he has scored nearly 300 times. If the former Inter Milan striker is open to staying at Chelsea, then retaining him is something that the club surely have to consider.

Retired France international Djibril Cisse recently hailed Lukaku as a “great player”. It has not worked out for him at Stamford Bridge, but the above suggests that he is just that. If he is not welcome at Chelsea this summer, then someone else will take him in again.
