Report: Newcastle officials are now about to hold fresh contract talks with Bruno Guimaraes' 'big brother'

Newcastle United are hoping that Bruno Guimaraes stays at St James’ Park beyond this summer, while they also want his best friend to stay too.

There are major concerns about Newcastle needing to cash in on Bruno Guimaraes, who has a £100million release clause in his contract. Selling him would ease the Magpies’ PSR concerns, which continues to be an issue heading into the summer transfer window.

Another problem that Newcastle United have surrounds Joelinton. The 27-year-old is at risk of being sold this summer, with his current contract expiring in 2025.

The club either needs to get Joelinton to extend his stay on Tyneside, or they will be forced to cash in this summer to avoid losing him for nothing next year.

There were initially fears that his Toon career was over, but negotiations appear to be back on the right path now that Amanda Staveley is in charge. Now the Telegraph have provided an update on when the situation could be resolved.

Newcastle set for fresh contract talks with Joelinton

According to the Telegraph, the club are now planning to hold a fresh set of contract negotiations with Joelinton and his representatives in the coming weeks.

They add that Newcastle United are hoping to have the situation resolved before the beginning of May. That should mean we know what Joelinton’s future is going to look like in about a month.

It will be an agonizing wait for Toon fans, who are desperate for the 27-year-old to stay. Eddie Howe feels the same, having made it clear that he wants Joelinton to sign a new contract and remain at St James’ Park.

Newcastle need to keep Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes together

Bruno feels the same too, having struck up an incredible relationship with Joelinton since meeting at Newcastle.

Bruno even refers to Joelinton as his ‘big brother‘, and it was hoped that the former Lyon man could help convince Newcastle’s number seven to extend his stay on Tyneside.

Hopefully he does sign a new deal, as it could even have a knock on effect on Bruno’s future. There will be fears that he may decide to leave should Joelinton depart.

It is going to be a defining few weeks at Newcastle United, both on and off the pitch. Vital contract negotiations are set to take place, while Howe’s players are beginning their late push to qualify for Europe.
