‘Huge way to go’: Lee Dixon says £65m Arsenal player is nowhere near being world-class yet

There’s been a lot of debate around which Arsenal players are world-class recently.

Rio Ferdinand’s recent comments on Bukayo Saka not being at that level dominated the headlines for way longer than they should have, while that debate sparked plenty of other discussions.

There’s been plenty of chat around whether the likes of William Saliba and Gabriel Martinelli are at that world-class level, and now, Lee Dixon has given his view on another Arsenal star.

Lee Dixon says one Arsenal player is miles away from being world-class

Speaking to Squawka, Dixon has been speaking about Kai Havertz, and he says that the German still has a long way to go before he can be considered a world-class player.

“I don’t know. I think his reputation at that age was, as you said, he was projected to be this wonderkid and his development certainly slowed down. And I think we’re seeing a few signs,” Dixon said.

“Huge way to go, to get anywhere near world class. I think he’d settle for that, because I think already you’ve got to be touching those heights now, or if not before, to really be in that class. But he’s definitely showing why the club spent as much money on him [as they did], and I think basically what seems to be the case, that he seems like he’s at home now,

“He feels like he’s loved. And I think he is one of those players. I don’t know him, just from his body language on the pitch, he’s one of those that you need to give a little bit of love to.

“And he seems like he’s getting that from everyone, and it does help when the team’s knocking everybody over. It’s amazing how much confidence you get when you’re winning 5-0 every week.”

Kai Havertz is nowhere near world-class

This just goes to show how quickly we can get carried away in football.

Kai Havertz has been in great form recently, granted, but it was less than two months ago he was being lambasted for being a terrible signing at£65m.

Dixon is right, Havertz is nowhere near being world-class, and he won’t be until he can put in a full season of good performances together.

Havertz is still a wildly inconsistent player, and we’re not even sure if he’s good, let alone world-class.
