Wisbech Town manager Alex Street would welcome a return to the Eastern Counties League for next season.
The Fenmen have thrown their hat in the ring to join the Thurlow Nunn League, as well as applying to stay in the United Counties League Premier Division North.
It has been more than a decade since the Fenmen were part of the Eastern Counties set-up.
They last played in it in 2012/13, finishing as runners-up behind Dereham Town.
Although the club were eligible for promotion, the opportunity was declined in favour of a voluntary lateral movement, rejoining the United Counties League Premier Division instead for the 2013/14 campaign.
Street believes a return to the Thurlow Nunn Premier is the more favourable option for all concerned at Fountain Fresh Park.
"I think that the best thing for the club would be to go to the Thurlow Nunn.
"It's more local, there would be bigger crowds and bigger derbies.
"Yes, it's probably a slightly easier league than the one we're in, but it's still a tough league and a competitive league.
"There are some good teams with some good budgets but Wisbech should be in and around that top end.
"If we get the planning right and the foundation in place to make sure that we're in a good place.
"We make it attractable so lads want to come in and play for Wisbech and not just for the money that we were used to give out."
The Wisbech boss has already begun planning for both scenarios and will be drawing up a list of potential targets on his summer shopping list.
"I've gotta have a look at it. I've to write down and have a look at potential players that I need to bring in.
"We've applied to go in a different league, so we won't know what league we're going in probably until quite late. I'd imagine.
"We've planned for both. If we go Thurlow Nunn the players would be happy with that. it's comfortable, it's on the doorstep, there's less travelling and we want Wisbech Town to be a progressive club.
"There's a plan in motion, we've got to get the foundations right off the pitch and build momentum for next season and bring in the players that not only want to do well next year, but potentially have a go the year after and compete."
Net up for the Fenmen is a trip to Deeping Rangers in the UCL Premier Division North on Easter Monday (3pm).
