Dutch media share ‘problem’ Ronald Koeman has with Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven

Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven may struggle to make the Netherlands’ Euros squad this summer.

It has been said in the Dutch media that the national side’s manager Ronald Koeman has a ‘problem’ with the Spurs man.

Micky van de Ven joined Spurs in the summer and has proved to be the perfect addition for Ange Postecoglou’s style of play.

But it seems this may have led to an issue with the Dutch manager ahead of the Euros.

What Ronald Koeman thinks of Micky van de Ven

Unlike the large number of Spurs players, Van de Ven remained at Hotspur Way over the last week having missed out on the call-up.

However, it was a forced absence with the Spurs defender currently sidelined through injury.

Although a call-up was by no means a guarantee given he has only ever made two appearances worth 26 minutes for the Netherlands.

Following their recent defeat to Germany, the Dutch media have been assessing their options ahead of the summer.

But it is apparent there are some concerns in Van de Ven’s homeland surrounding his reliability due to his hamstring issues.

‘Such a player should actually be included in a European Championship selection without hesitation. Suppose the Dutch team has to force play and Koeman sends Van Dijk forward, then Van de Ven is the ideal guardian of the remaining defense. Fifty meters of space in the back? Van de Ven uses his enormous speed to catch back every striker who has broken through,’ they said.

‘The only problem is that he is struck again and again by hamstring injuries. Again. That does not make him a ‘reliable’ pawn, which Koeman will also take into account.’

Micky van de Ven injury news

Spurs return to action on Saturday in the Premier League with a clash against Luton Town at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Lilywhites have a point to prove having tasted defeat in their last outing against Fulham.

That was a game which Van de Ven missed through injury as it provided Radu Dragusin with his first start for the club.

There is yet to be any official word on Van de Ven’s injury latest. The media will hear from Postecoglou tomorrow.

But prior to the Fulham game, Postecoglou did admit that it was an injury which is not expected to keep the 22-year-old for too much time.

He said: “But with the international break, hopefully it means he doesn’t miss too much after that.”

Going into the Fulham game, there may not have been a huge clamour for Van de Ven to make a speedy recovery with Dragusin filling in.

However, the game at Craven Cottage saw Spurs torn apart by Marco Silva’s side and Van de Ven’s absence was certainly felt.

The Spurs fans will surely have their ears peeled for the press conference at Hotspur Way tomorrow.
