Glenn Hoddle says Tottenham have a £50k-per-week player who is one of the best in the Premier League

Tottenham Hotspur legend Glenn Hoddle has claimed Spurs have a player who is one of the best in the Premier League in his position.

Under Ange Postecoglou, the Lilywhites have had a drastically improved campaign on what was on display last season with Antonio Conte.

And there have certainly been some standout performances from this Spurs side with a number of the new signings taking well to life in the Premier League.

Who Glenn Hoddle thinks is one of the best

The recruitment shown from Spurs over the last number of months has been seriously impressive.

Arrivals like Guglielmo Vicario, Destiny Udogie (arriving in the summer) and James Maddison are all examples of the positive changes at Hotspur Way.

However, it is the summer signing Micky van de Ven who has impressed Hoddle so far and he has even compared him to Vigil van Dijk.

Speaking to Chris Cowlin, the Spurs legend has revealed how well we feels Van de Ven has taken to the transition from the Bundesliga. He said: “Obviously if there are good players available and you can get them, I mean look at Van de Ven coming to the club. He’s obviously a bit injured at the moment but he looks as if, for me, if he didn’t get injured at the beginning of the season, he would be in most players’ Premier League side.

“He and Virgil van Dijk, they are the best two in the country. Funnily enough, they’re both Dutch, so he’s a find he is. If we get a few more like that in different positions and a couple of wide-men, then we aren’t far off it.”

What Timo Werner has said about Micky van de Ven

Signing Van de Ven in the summer from Wolfsburg for £43m has proven to be a bit of a bargain.

Hoddle compared Van de Ven to Liverpool’s Van Dijk who was signed by the Merseyside club for a whopping £75m.

It is still early days in his career in north London, but the performances he has put in can provide fans with a lot of optimism for the years to come.

There is no doubting the 22-year-old has been one of the signings of the season and he’s certainly formed a serious partnership with Cristian Romero.

And winger Timo Werner has admitted he has been left impressed with the two centre-backs during a recent interview.

When asked who was the toughest teammates to play against in training, he said: “Micky is very fast. Cuti [Romero] is very aggressive, but I think probably Cuti because he likes to tackle and he’s very good at what he’s doing.”

But these displays for Spurs has already got some questioning when the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City will come in for him.

Whatever awaits the Dutchman in the future, Spurs will be hoping to have him back as soon as possible following his recent injury scare.
