Ange Postecoglou drops 27-year-old and starts ‘underrated’ player: Tottenham predicted XI vs West Ham

Ange Postecoglou faces a few key decisions ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s trip to West Ham United tonight.

Brennan Johnson impressed off the bench on Saturday as Spurs left it late to beat Luton Town 2-1.

The Welshman replaced Dejan Kulusevski and forced an own goal from Issa Kabore before setting up Heung-min Son for the winner.

With Johnson pushing for a start, Micky van de Ven also returned to the squad on Saturday after missing the 3-0 defeat at Fulham. The Dutchman has been labelled ‘likely’ to replace Radu Dragusin in the starting XI at West Ham.

But Ange Postecoglou may also be tempted to make a change in the middle of the park, with Yves Bissouma currently struggling for form.

While Dragusin put in a solid display against Luton, Van de Ven looks set to return at centre-back for tonight’s London Derby.

That would likely be the only change to the back five, with Destiny Udogie, Pedro Porro and Cristian Romero continuing in front of Guglielmo Vicario.

Bissouma didn’t enjoy his best afternoon on Saturday as he arguably could have done better to prevent Andros Townsend’s run down the right-hand side for Luton’s opener.

The Mali international has struggled to find consistency following a couple of suspensions and AFCON 2024. With Rodrigo Bentancur impressing after coming off the bench against Luton, the ‘underrated’ playmaker could return at the base of midfield.

James Maddison hasn’t exactly been at his best since returning from injury and faces added pressure after a bright Giovani Lo Celso cameo over the weekend. But we expect the Englishman to continue in midfield, alongside Pape Matar Sarr.

Following his exceptional second-half display, Johnson could come in for Kulusevski, with Timo Werner continuing on the left-hand side.

Son looks likely to continue up front with Richarlison working his way back to full fitness following a knee injury.

Here is our predicted Tottenham XI for the clash against West Ham in full.
