'Surprised': Alan Brazil admits he was shocked by something Alexander Isak did last night vs Everton

Alexander Isak continued his rich vein of form against Everton, but the Newcastle United striker will have one big regret from Tuesday night’s game.

The 24-year-old scored the Magpies’ only goal at St James’ Park, breaking the deadlock in the 15th minute to give Newcastle United the lead.

It was Alexander Isak‘s 19th goal of the season, and his 15th in the Premier League. The Sweden international is enjoying the best goalscoring campaign of his career, and will be eager to hit the 20-goal milestone as soon as possible.

It will not take him long if he continues the form he is currently in, with Isak boasting eight goals in his last nine Premier League games.

However, the Magpies’ most expensive signing ever will know that he should have made it nine in nine and scored his 20th goal during the second half against Everton.

Alexander Isak missed an incredible chance against Everton

While Isak took his goal brilliantly, he was not as clinical in the second half when presented with an easier chance.

Harvey Barnes put it on a plate for Isak, who simply had to direct it towards goal. He did just that, beating Jordan Pickford in the process. But he did not beat Everton defender Vitaliy Mykolenko, who cleared Isak’s shot off the line.

Alan Brazil was shocked by the Newcastle United striker

It proved to be a decisive miss, and TalkSPORT pundit Alan Brazil has admitted he was shocked to see Isak fail to find the net.

“I love seeing that from a centre forward,” he said.

“He [Isak] doesn’t panic the boy, because you have the defender on toast. You throw a shoulder and they dive in, because they have one chance, and you go round them and he took it brilliantly.

“Surprised he didn’t smash the second one in!”

Isak is on fire at the perfect time for Newcastle

Given how well he has performed as of late, it was a shock to see Isak miss. He will regret not finding the net, although Mykolenko can be very proud of his defensive efforts.

In the end, Isak’s one goal was enough to earn a point. Only time will tell how valuable that point will be.

Newcastle are still in the hunt to qualify for Europe, and Eddie Howe needs his top stars to perform. He is getting exactly that from Isak, who is arguably playing the best football of his Newcastle United career.

Isak is on fire in front of goal, and hopefully he continues this rich vein of form during the final eight games of the season.
