Crystal Palace could still sign £10m January target compared to Jude Bellingham this summer - journalist

Crystal Palace explored a number of potential midfield additions throughout the January transfer window.

There was interest in signing Kalvin Phillips on loan from Manchester City at one stage before the England international moved to West Ham – a switch that has been a disaster so far.

Dougie Freedman also had a look at Adam Wharton – of course – and eventually struck a £22m agreement with Blackburn for the England U21 international.

However, there was one midfield alternative Crystal Palace considered buying instead of the 20-year-old, as Blackburn demanded £25m, who Dougie Freedman could have another go at signing this summer…

Well – according to Alan Nixon – Crystal Palace could still sign Birmingham No.19 Jordan James this summer.

It was actually Nixon who claimed back in January that Freedman had made contact with Birmingham to ask about the Wales international, as it seemed Blackburn would not budge from their £25m asking price for Wharton.

The Daily Mail also covered news of our enquiry about James, where it was revealed that Birmingham want £10m in the event of any sale.

When asked by a fan if Crystal Palace will make another move for the 19-year-old this summer, Nixon replied: “One of several possibilities.”

Jordan James could be a tremendous signing

In our view, James could turn out to be one of those cheap Championship signings who become fan favourites at Selhurst Park.

The Eagles have previously found some cult heroes in England’s second tier for bargain fees, such as the £1.5m deal to sign Scott Dann from Blackburn, and the £4.5m signing of James McArthur from Wigan.

Now, if Freedman can get his hands on a highly versatile goalscoring midfielder for just £10m – one who also boasts ten caps for Wales and is just 19 years of age – it could prove to be a bit of genius.

As shown by Transfermarkt, James has appeared on the left wing, the right flank, in central midfield, defensive midfield and also as an attacking midfielder this season.

The teenager has scored eight goals in 38 Championship appearances despite not having a settled position, which is quite the achievement.

To top it all off, James has even been compared to none other than Jude Bellingham.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Freedman could find another diamond in the Championship this summer.
