Oliver Glasner now faces disaster, just one player from key Crystal Palace trio remains fit

Crystal Palace’s season of injury woes has continued with yet another star player sidelined, it’s a massive blow for Oliver Glasner.

Tuesday night saw Crystal Palace succumb to the second defeat of the Oliver Glasner era.

Bournemouth were the side to make that happen, winning 1-0 at the Vitality.

Ultimately it was a result which further showed just how much work Glasner has to do in order to bring Palace to the level he’s aiming for.

But as this season heads towards its finale, Glasner’s hopes of ending on a high have just gotten more difficult.

With Marc Guehi, Michael Olise and Cheick Doucoure all injured already, another star name has now picked up a blow.

Chris Richards joins injury list for Crystal Palace

One glaring absence against Bournemouth on Tuesday night was USA international Chris Richards. The 24-year-old was absent after he picked up an injury against Forest.

Now Matt Woosnam has confirmed that Richards is set to miss two to three weeks of action due to this injury.

He joins the lengthy list of key players who have been out through injury for Palace and Glasner.

It’s definitely a concern and something that needs to be addressed this summer, as an injury crisis on this level can’t repeat next season.

For Glasner, losing Richards is a substantial blow as it leaves him with far from ideal defensive options, it’s a disaster.

Richards’ injury is a massive blow

Without Richards, Glasner had a makeshift backline against Bournemouth, which really only had one natural centre-half.

Joachim Andersen was leading the defence with midfielder Jefferson Lerma and right-back Joel Ward next to him.

This shows just how thin the squad is, and how the results under Glasner so far, need to be taken with a grain of salt, as he’s having to cope with some terrible luck.

Now, over the next three weeks, Palace will have to field a completely makeshift back three against sides including Man City, Man United, Liverpool, Newcastle and West Ham in five of the next six games.

A very concerning run of games which could quite easily see Palace back in trouble of relegation.

Guehi and Richards need to return as soon as possible to try and see Palace over the line this season, as it could be closer than we thought it would be weeks ago.
