Crystal Palace must sign the next Luka Modric, as Fabrizio Romano says he's available this summer - opinion

As Crystal Palace chiefs will currently be busy compiling a transfer shortlist, there is one man who needs to be on it.

Oliver Glasner will have a long list of desires ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window, with a striker, winger, midfielder, wing-backs and centre-backs all being considered.

But the midfield is a particularly intriguing position for Dougie Freedman to strengthen, and there is one player we’d love to see move to Selhurst Park.

Some previously linked options include interest in Kalvin Phillips during January, while Birmingham City midfielder Jordan James was also tipped as a potential £25m target.

But we have a different name in mind that’d fit right in and potentially be a real bargain…

Crystal Palace can sign the perfect midfielder this summer

This summer if Palace are looking to reinforce the midfield, then Luca Sucic has to be one of the options considered.

According to Fabrizio Romano, he is expected to leave this summer ahead of his deal expiring in 2025, so it’s the final chance for RB Salzburg to get a fee for him.

Sucic is also unlikely to break the bank, with £17m being his quoted price tag last year amid Liverpool interest.

A year on, it’d be perfectly reasonable to assume he’d probably even cost less, although a bidding war could ensue with multiple clubs interested.

Romano concluded by saying Sucic is ‘one to watch’ this summer. So with the 21-year-old on the move this summer, Palace have to be in the race, here’s why…

Why Luca Sucic should be on the list this summer

Sucic is a midfielder capable of playing across the different midfield lines and has been likened various times to Luka Modric.

He is a very creative midfielder whose strengths lie on the ball – although is also capable of doing the dirty work. This could make him the perfect player to partner any of Palace’s current more defensive-minded midfielders.

From looking at his stats this season, he’d be the ideal player to pair with Adam Wharton or Jefferson Lerma, as FotMob shows.

  • 844 minutes
  • 4 assists
  • 79% pass accuracy
  • 2.24 chances created per 90
  • 3.41 successful dribbles per 90
  • 72.7 touches per 90
  • 80% tackle success rate
  • 6.72 duels won per 90
  • 8 recoveries per 90

It’s pretty clear from this that he has a lot of the strengths that Palace are currently lacking.

Potentially an excellent signing this summer and he should absolutely be on the list for Freedman to consider.
