Michael Dawson played with some truly world-class players during his time at Tottenham.
That’s not an exaggeration, Dawson worked with the likes of Luka Modric, Rafael Van der Vaart, and, for a short period, Harry Kane, during his time at Spurs.
Dawson saw a lot of quality players during his time in north London, and now, speaking on the Off The Shelf Podcast, Dawson has named the best player he ever played with at Spurs.

Dawson spoke about the best player he ever worked with at Tottenham.
Interestingly, despite sharing a pitch with a future Ballon d’Or winner in the shape of Luka Modric during his time at Spurs, Dawson named Gareth Bale as the best player he ever played alongside.
“I was very fortunate to be the captain of this football club and lead some of these players out, Van der Vaart, Davids, Modric, Bale, Lennon, Huddlestone, the King. The best player I’ve played with, and the reason is because he could win a football match on his own – Gareth Bale, the best,” Dawson said.
“I don’t believe he was given the credit he deserves, for me he was in the bracket of Messi and Ronaldo, fact, not for longevity, but for a few years.”
Gareth Bale was untouchable
There are only a few players in Premier League history who have genuinely been untouchable for a sustained period.
Thierry Henry, Luis Suarez and Mohamed Salah all had periods where they could single-handedly dominate any game in the Premier League, and Bale is another player who reached that red hot level of form.
Bale, on his day, was unplayable, and, as much as we hate to say it, Spurs were a one-man team for a little while during that period.
Bale may not have won a Ballon d’Or, but at Tottenham, he was certainly a more impactful player than Luka Modric.
