Report: Arsenal increasingly keen to move for 'world-class' 20-year-old deemed Kevin De Bruyne's heir

Arsenal are enjoying a great season, with both the Premier League title and the Champions League trophy up for grabs.

The Gunners are contesting one of the most exciting Premier League title races in recent years, alongside Liverpool and Manchester City.

Arsenal are also in the Champions League quarter-finals, with Bayern Munich their opponents in the last eight of the competition.

The Gunners have gone from strength to strength since Mikel Arteta took the reins in 2019, but they will not be resting on their laurels come the summer.

We’re likely to see Arsenal invest in more top players in the upcoming transfer window, and speculation will intensify ahead of the market opening.

Now, a report has emerged claiming the Gunners are set to intensify their interest in a player who has been deemed Kevin De Bruyne’s heir.

The player in question is Netherlands midfielder Xavi Simons, currently on loan at RB Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain.

What has been said about Arsenal and their interest in Xavi Simons?

Sports Lens have reported that Arsenal have been tracking the 20-year-old for some time, and he has been putting in ‘genuine elite levels of performance’.

The report – written by transfer insider Dean Jones – noted how the Gunners are currently in the market for a wide man.

And with detailed knowledge of Simons already, not to mention his progress, Arsenal are apparently ‘becoming more serious about the idea of an approach’.

The Gunners aren’t the only Premier League club said to be eyeing Simons, however.

Who else aside Arsenal is apparently keen on Xavi Simons?

As well as Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have apparently been tracking him.

In March, CaughtOffside claimed that Manchester City were also eyeing the ‘world-class’ Dutchman.

They described Simons as a player ‘highly appreciated by Guardiola and considered De Bruyne’s possible heir.’

Simons’ future at PSG remains unclear, which could give the likes of Arsenal the perfect opportunity to try and turn the player’s head.

With nine goals and 13 assists in 37 Leipzig outings this season, it’s clear that the reported Gunners target is a player of the highest calibre.

Let’s see what happens in the coming months. Hopefully Arsenal will change from mulling over a potential approach to going all out to sign him.
