Ange Postecoglou sends message of support to Celtic ahead of Rangers derby

Former Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou says he will be watching this Sunday’s derby when the Bhoys visit Ibrox to face Rangers.

Postecoglou enjoyed two dominant years in Scotland, including winning a superb domestic treble, before moving to take charge of Tottenham Hotspur last summer.

The Australian has never hidden his enjoyment of the Celtic experience and will now get to watch on as a supporter rather than locked in the heat of battle.

The Spurs boss will oversee his team’s match at home to Nottingham Forest later on Sunday evening but the early kick-off in Glasgow means he won’t miss a moment.

It seems he’d love nothing more than to see signings he made such as Kyogo Furuhashi and Reo Hatate punish Philippe Clement’s side, declaring his green and white credentials.

Ange Postecoglou on Celtic’s trip to face Rangers

He said in a media conference today [Sky Sports]: “It’s one of the biggest rivalries in world football. I am very much on the green and white side and I know what it means for the supporters to win that game.

“As much as we talk about derbies and how big this one and that one is, I lived and breathed it for a couple of years. It’s a really important game for both clubs.

“Looking at the table this year it has extra significance as most of the time these games are maybe what separate the teams at the end of the year. It will be a cracking game and I will be tuning in.”

Postecoglou’s most thrilling derby night

Postecoglou enjoyed some big derby wins during his spell as Celtic boss, perhaps most memorably in February of 2022 when the Bhoys secured a 3-0 victory.

That one was played under the lights at Celtic Park. Reo Hatate netted a double with Liel Abada also on the scoresheet as supporters went crazy with their adulation for Ange’s Bhoys.

That night will likely stay with him forever so there’s little doubt he understands exactly what all of this means.

We haven’t quite hit the heights of those thrills so far this season but there’s still time for this team to remind everyone who the best in Scotland is.
