Reporter close to Sullivan makes new £4m Kalvin Phillips claim as West Ham deal becomes clear

An interesting update has just been provided on the current situation of Kalvin Phillips at West Ham United.

West Ham boss David Moyes brought Kalvin Phillips to the London Stadium on loan from Manchester City in January, but he has struggled badly for the Hammers.

Michail Antonio put the 28-year-old’s problems down to a lack of confidence, and there is definitely some truth to that.

However, I believe that Phillips’ struggles run a lot deeper than just a lack of confidence. Firstly, he wasn’t anywhere near fit enough when he moved to the London Stadium.

Before joining us, he hadn’t started a Premier League game since May! So it’s no surprise that he was nowhere near the levels that he needed to be.

And I have to say this as well – is he 100% per cent committed to playing for West Ham? His performances so far suggest that he’s not unfortunately.

So…what does the future hold for Kalvin?

West Ham handed big Kalvin Phillips boost

When the midfielder joined the Hammers on loan in January, as it was reported that we paid around £7 million to bring him to the London Stadium, wages included (The Guardian).

Looking back at that, it really was a terrible, terrible move from Moyes and the owners.

The fact is, we could have really done with a new striker, a left winger or a centre-back. Moyes just didn’t need to add another central midfielder to his ranks.

However, it seems as though the deal to sign the England international wasn’t quite as bad as it seemed to be at first…

Sean Whetstone – a reporter with close links to the Hammers board – has made a new claim about the 28-year-old.

Whetstone took to X to provide a detailed update on the Phillips situation:

The fact that we’re not planning to sign Phillips on a permanent deal this summer is fantastic news. Also, if it ends up being £4 million that we spent on the transfer rather than £7 million, then that’s obviously very good for us as well.

He’s not the man we need to help take us to the next level. However, that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t get behind him and support him for the remainder of this season.

Kalvin Phillips has been so, so poor for West Ham but we all know he’s not a bad player at all on his day.

Maybe he’ll still have an important role to play for us this season, but beyond that it looks like his future does not lie in the East End of London. Good news.
