‘I disagree’… Chris Sutton issues honest Tottenham verdict as he predicts who’ll win vs Nottingham Forest

BBC Sport pundit Chris Sutton has provided his prediction for Tottenham Hotspur’s game on the weekend.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side face the Premier League strugglers Nottingham Forest at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Nuno Espirito Santo will be making his first return to north London since being sacked by Daniel Levy for Antonio Conte.

Although Forest have had a difficult season which sees them battling away at the wrong end of the table, they are coming into the game on the back of improved form.

Tottenham have been able to take four points from a possible six on their return from the international break, but remain adrift in the top four race.

But with the likes of Heung-min Son and Brennan Johnson showing stunning form in front of goal recently, they will be confident of dispatching Forest.

The South Korean captain was left furious on Tuesday night with Dejan Kulusevski following the full-time whistle in east London.

But the 31-year-old did mark his 400 appearance for Spurs which has seen the likes of Dele Alli issue a congratulatory message.

Although it was not a classic Son performance on Tuesday, Sutton is expecting him to bounce back tomorrow against Forest.

Chris Sutton continues to defend Tottenham after Hammers draw

The past month has certainly offered up some mixed results for the Lilywhites who have been unable to capitalise on some of Villa’s recent results.

Having put Unai Emery’s side to the sword on their own turf last month, Spurs have lost one, drawn one and won one.

Of course, the defeat to Fulham is the standout result since Villa and there were some players who were heavily criticised for that trip to Craven Cottage.

However, Spurs have come out of the international break and showed improved form with the likes of Yves Bissouma receiving very high praise from his manager.

But Spurs did look pretty ineffective in attack on Tuesday night with Son unable to find another winning goal.

As they looked for a breakthrough James Maddison was withdrawn after 70 minutes which has since been slammed by some in the media.

With West Ham having kept Spurs out fairly comfortably and Luton proving a tough nut to crack, Sutton has defended Postecoglou’s side in his recent set of predictions for BBC Sport.

“I don’t see it happening [Forest win], though. Nuno Espirito Santo did not have much to celebrate during his brief spell as Spurs boss in 2021, and I can’t see him having much reason to smile on his return to the club,” he said.

“Like I do most weeks, I am backing Tottenham to click here. I am going to make Son Heung-min captain of my Fantasy team this weekend, because I am expecting a hat-trick from him, and a big win for Spurs.

“I get the feeling some people are looking at Tottenham and wondering if they have lost a bit of the fizz they had earlier in the season, but I disagree.”

Sutton also praised the work done by Postecoglou in his first season

The former Celtic striker has been a big supporter of Postecoglou following his move from Parkhead to north London in the summer.

This season has provided Tottenham fans with a lot to be positive about, but some may be questioning the club’s recent for. However, Sutton was keen to highlight the improvement he’s seen from Spurs.

“They are not on an amazing run of form at the moment but I still think they have had a great first campaign under Ange Postecoglou.

“He is all about performances and progress and I don’t think anyone can deny they have made progress, despite losing Harry Kane to Bayern Munich just before the season started.”
