Ange Postecoglou reveals ‘really important’ Tottenham player will miss Nottingham Forest clash through injury

Tottenham Hotspur are going to be without one of their key players for the game against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

The Lilywhites have had injury issues throughout the season which have really tested Ange Postecoglou‘s squad depth.

Going into the game against West Ham on Tuesday night, Tottenham had a fairly clean bill of health barring Ryan Sessegnon and Manor Solomon.

The pair remain long-term injury absentees and look unlikely to return before the end of the season now.

After Brennan Johnson provided Tottenham with the opening goal of the night on Tuesday, Spurs really struggled to show a cutting edge in attack.

Heung-min Son made his 400 appearance for the club, but that is all the South Korean really had to celebrate on the night.

The draw saw Spurs miss a golden opportunity to leapfrog Aston Villa in the league table who tasted defeat on Wednesday against Manchester City.

And now it’s been revealed they will be without a player who has proven hugely influential for them this season against Forest at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham player to miss Forest clash with ongoing injury issue

One player who has endured his injury struggles this season is Micky van de Ven having only signed in the summer.

The 22-year-old has been hugely important to the Spurs backline, but his hamstrings have caused him issues on two occasions now.

Thankfully, he has returned to the starting XI now and the Spurs fans were delighted to see him back in action on Tuesday night.

Tottenham’s struggles on at the London Stadium came up top where they really lacked a focal point with Son failing to get in behind the West Ham defence.

Richarlison has been the man Spurs have looked to for goals alongside their captain this season, but he has also suffered numerous injuries.

Having undergone the knife earlier in the term, the “really important” Brazilian returned and showed some seriously impressive form.

However, he has recently been struggling with a knee issue which has limited his game time following the international break.

Having only racked up 13 minutes of football over Tottenham’s last two games, Postecoglou told the media at Hotspur Way on Friday he’d miss the game against Forest.

“The only one from the other night is Richy. He’s had a bit of a niggle with his knee. So we’ll probably give him this weekend off just to get totally over it. Hopefully he’ll be ready for Newcastle next week.”

Heung-min Son expected to feature through the middle again

On the whole, Son has worked extremely well through the middle having already racked up 12 goals from the centre-forward position.

However, against a side like West Ham, he proved incredibly ineffective with the Hammers proving resolute at the back.

But it is apparent the South Korean has the backing of his teammates to help them put points on the board as Destiny Udogie recently hailed his captain.

“It’s a big help to us [having Son]. Obviously, he’s a top player and he’s a leader as well. When he speaks, he just says something to help you, like some suggestions on where to position ourselves. The way he plays, the way he shows his leadership… incredible.”
