£9m Nottingham Forest player surely caught Nuno's eye after what he did this week - opinion

Nottingham Forest have signed so many players since winning promotion back in 2022 – it can often be hard to keep track of everybody.

The likes of Andre Ayew, Gustavo Scarpa, Serge Aurier and Orel Mangala have already been and gone since Nottingham Forest won the Championship play-off final, as the City Ground witnessed a squad overhaul like no other.

Amid that expensive overhaul, there was one signing who never really got a chance to shine – but he surely caught the eye of Nuno Espirito Santo after what he did this week…

Well – amid that aforementioned recruitment drive – Nottingham Forest signed Omar Richards in an £8.5m deal from Bayern Munich.

However, the left-back is yet to actually make an appearance for Nottingham Forest, having endured injury hell since arriving at the City Ground.

Richards missed five months of action after needing to undergo surgery on a fractured shin, while there was then another operation to remove a pin from the original procedure, according to the BBC.

Nottingham Forest loaned the 26-year-old to Olympiakos in August to help get him back on track, and the defender is now starting to show what he can do.

Richards shone on Wednesday as Olympiakos recorded a 3-0 win over Aris in the Greek Super League play-off.

The Englishman provided an assist for Joao Carvalho – his first of the season after nine appearances – and looked very sharp down that left flank.

SofaScore shows that Richards delivered three accurate crosses and impressively completed 87% of his passes, in a display where he looked full of energy down that left flank.

What is most pleasing to see – however – is that the Londoner managed to complete 90 minutes.

Nuno will be watching Omar Richards

If Richards can keep this level of performance up, there is no reason why he cannot compete against Ola Aina and Harry Toffolo next season – no matter what division Nottingham Forest are in.

Nuno has plenty to worry about right now amid point deductions and the loss of Taiwo Awoniyi, but his eye was surely caught by a highly promising performance from the £8.5m man in Greece this week.
