Carlton Cole says ‘fantastic’ Tottenham player is the most underrated player in the Premier League

TalkSPORT pundit Carlton Cole has said Tottenham Hotspur currently have the most underrated player in the Premier League.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side came up against Cole’s former side during the week in their trip to the London Stadium to face West Ham.

Tottenham were unable to secure all three points, but they did move closer to the top four with Aston Villa losing the following night.

Spurs took the lead through Brennan Johnson who, once again, added to his tally in a Spurs shirt after showing sensational form in recent weeks.

The Welshman transformed the game on the weekend against Luton Town and became the league’s most impactful player off the bench.

Cole regrets picking Arsenal player over Spurs man in underrated question

It has been a highly encouraging season for the Lilywhites since Postecoglou’s arrival at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Chairman Daniel Levy oversaw a lot of change over the summer with Spurs seeing their all-time record goalscorer Harry Kane leave.

Spurs brought in a considerable amount of money for the 30-year-old striker with Bayern Munich parting with a whopping £100m.

The departure of the England captain naturally left a huge hole in the Spurs side with Richarlison left as the club’s only natural striker.

However, it is Heung-min Son who has taken on the responsibility in front of goal this season with the South Korean having netted 15 times in the Premier League.

Son hit his 400 appearance for Spurs on Tuesday night at the London Stadium and he received a lot of praise from his teammates in the wake of the game.

Despite being one of the league’s top scorers, the TalkSPORT man does not think the 31-year-old gets the credit he deserves.

“I think he’s a fantastic player. I think when he’s on the pitch, he’s just a threat. He bring a different dynamic toy our attacking lineup. You know once it goes to him, something’s going to happen.

“He can run in behind, he can come and get it to feet, he can have his back to goal, he can actually spin in behind and collect it off a long throw in or a long kick. Shoot from distance, he’s got it all!

“I look at him and think he’s not given the credit. I got a question asked recently – I should have said him actually – that someone asked me, ‘who’s the most underrated player in the Premier League?’ And I went with Jorginho.”

Micah Richards blown away by what he saw from Son

Although it was a quiet evening for the South Korean against the Irons, he was able to provide the difference on the weekend against Luton Town.

With Spurs looking set to take just a point from the game having conceded early on, the captain stepped up with a big late goal.

And it is fair to say Richards was just as impressed with Son as Cole has been.

“I thought it was going to be a bad day, but then Son… wow, wow, what a player he is and continues to be! But yeah, fair play to Spurs still playing brave football, attacking football and they’re here to stay. They really are,” he said.
