What Nuno Espirito Santo has said ahead of his first Tottenham return after being sacked in 2021

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Nuno Espirito Santo will return to N17 on the weekend for the first time since being sacked.

The Lilywhites find themselves in a much more promising position now under the watch of Ange Postecoglou.

Champions League football is the target for Tottenham with just eight games remaining in the Premier League.

However, the 58-year-old will not have fans settle for a top four finish as he insists he aspires to achieve a lot more with the club.

With the backing of Daniel Levy over the last two transfer windows and the potential of fresh investment to be pumped into the club, things look to be on the up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs have come a long way from the struggles they endured under Nuno’s brief spell at the club.

Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski got on the scoresheet at the City Ground earlier this season as Spurs picked up three points.

But he will be returning on Sunday with three points on his mind as his Nottingham Forest side battle against the drop.

Nuno provides honest assessment of Ange Postecoglou ahead of N17 return

Since Nuno was sacked, Spurs have seen a number of different faces in the dugout with Antonio Conte being succeeded by interim bosses Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason before Postecoglou.

A number of other big changes have also been made since the Portuguese manager’s time in north London with the sale of Harry Kane being one.

However, he will be aware of the task on his hands to get something from the game on the weekend.

Spurs will be looking to rediscover their best form following a fairly underwhelming display against West Ham on Tuesday.

Postecoglou came under fire for the his decision to withdraw James Maddison around the 70th minute mark for the second game in a row.

But Nuno has spoken to the media ahead of the game on Sunday to share his approval for the work done by the Australian.

“Spurs are a team full of very talented players, with a good manager. They are in a good moment. It is going to be hard,” he said.

Nuno only lasted four months and 17 games at Spurs before the decision was made to remove him from his post.

But he remains excited to return to Tottenham and admitted he looks back on his time fondly – albeit being brie

“It is going to be a pleasure to return, to play there and to face Spurs. It is part of the past now, I am focused on Forest and am really, really determined to try to achieve a good performance.

“I have learned from all moments of my life and all the experiences I have had. They [Spurs] are some also.”

Postecoglou defended Nuno in Friday’s press conference

Postecoglou has already outlasted Nuno’s time at Tottenham by quite a far margin already with the Australian doing a sterling job.

However, when asked about the former Spurs boss’ return on Sunday, the 58-year-old was keen to defend Nuno when speaking to the media.

“Fair to say Nuno would say Forest is a pretty big challenge as well. It is just the nature of the beast in terms of the competition you’re in and irrespective of which club you go to. There is a far more shorter term outlook on everything these days and that includes football.

“As a manager or whatever job you get, you know you don’t have the luxury of too much leeway to not get things right. For all of us it is just the world we live in now.”
