'Cost them': Alan Smith really didn't like something that Nuno did to Nottingham Forest team

Nottingham Forest are taking on Tottenham in the Premier League this evening, with the Reds needing a positive result.

Wins for Luton and Everton yesterday have piled the pressure on Forest with the Hatters now only out in the relegation zone on goal difference.

Tottenham have blown hot and cold of late and Forest really should have gone in at the interval leading the hosts.

Instead, the scores were level after Chris Wood had cancelled out a Murillo own goal with his 12th Premier League goal of 2023/24.

After Tottenham had taken the lead, Alan Smith mentioned that he wasn’t particularly happy with something Nuno Espirito Santo did to his Forest team.

What Nuno did to frustrate Alan Smith during Nottingham Forest clash

Well, this comment was made after Tottenham had taken the lead when Murillo, linked with Manchester City, had put through his own goal.

It was in relation to the Reds and how the team had been set up to play under Espirito Santo for the game at Tottenham.

Forest operated with a 4-2-3-1 that has been common under the head coach but it was the mentality of the team surprised the co-commentator somewhat.

Smith said live on Sky Sports: “He’s set them up a bit negative here for me and ultimately it’s cost them.”

Wood’s goal did get Forest back on level terms before the break and ultimately, the Reds finished the half the stronger of the two teams.

The 32-year-old missed a great chance to score again, however, and the in-form target man will be gutted not to have another goal to his name.

Smith had a point about Nuno mentality

Ultimately, Espirito Santo might have underestimated things by setting his team up in this manner at Tottenham.

Although going in at half-time with the score at 1-1 is a decent thing, it could have been so much better had the team started on the front foot.

The Premier League is an unforgiving beast and against teams like Tottenham, you have to gobble up every chance that comes your way.

Spurs haven’t been free-flowing in recent weeks and it now remains to be seen whether Forest will rue not starting stronger.
