Title dreams for Kentucky gymnastics in the program’s 50th season will not become a reality, coming up just short in the NCAA Regional Final this weekend in Fayetteville.
Finishing with a score of 197.475, the No. 7 seed Wildcats finished behind No. 2 LSU (198.250) and No. 10 Arkansas (197.925) alongside No. 15 Minnesota (197.400), the Tigers and Razorbacks advancing to the NCAA Championship in Fort Worth, Texas from April 18-20.
The Cats finished second on the uneven bars with a score of 49.400, led by Hailey Davis and Raena Worley with a 9.900, followed by 9.875 finishes for Delaynee Rodriguez and Jillian Procasky, then a 9.850 for Cecily Rizo and Bailey Bunn.
As for the balance beam, Creslyn Brose set a new season and career best with a 9.925, followed by Arianna Patterson with a 9.900, Rodriguez with a 9.875, Bunn with a 9.825 and Isabella Magnelli with a 9.800 for a total score of 49.325.
Floor was Kentucky’s best event of the day, finishing with a strong 49.475. Worley went for an outstanding 9.950, tied for the event win with LSU’s Aleah Finnegan and Minnesota’s Mya Hooten, while Davis and Brose went for 9.900s and Magnelli added a 9.875. Rodriguez finished with a 9.850 while Makenzie Wilson rounded out the group with a 9.800.
The Wildcats closed out the day with a 49.275 on vault, Magnelli going for a 9.900 and No. 4 overall while Worley added a 9.875, Wilson and Arianna Patterson went for 9.850s, Rizo put up a 9.800 and Procasky rounded things out with a 9.700.
That wraps up season No. 50 for the Wildcats as a team, though individual qualifiers will still be able to represent Kentucky at the NCAA National Championship in Texas. Until that list is released, the group closes out a 19-9 overall record that included a 9-5 finish in conference play.
Time to root for some individual competitors in Fort Worth.
