'Unbelievable': Jamie Redknapp wowed by moment of magic by Nottingham Forest star in first half vs Tottenham

Nottingham Forest were beaten 3-1 by Tottenham in the Premier League yesterday evening but Jamie Redknapp raved about one of Nuno Espirito Santo’s stars after the first half.

Chris Wood had equalised for Forest after a Murillo own goal had opened the scoring. He then missed a sitter shortly after to put the Reds ahead andGary Lineker expressed sympathy afterwards.

Forest had to dig deep after going a goal behind in the clash. Tottenham had their tails up and they sensed that the Reds could be there for the taking if they kept pressing forward.

Brennan Johnson was guilty of missing a chance to edge Spurs further in front but he found an inspired goalkeeper between the posts for Forest in Matz Sels.

It was the Belgian who copped the praise from Redknapp at half-time and he was seriously impressed. The £5 million signing from Strasbourg is looking like great business and the pundit raved about him.

What Jamie Redknapp said about Matz Sels

Well, the 32-year-old might not be a young goalkeeper but he’s certainly proving his worth to the Forest cause. He was powerless to prevent the three goals yesterday and helped his side remain in the game.

Forest star Sels produced three or four sound saves to thwart Spurs in their efforts. On another day, the hosts might have scored more but yesterday they found a Forest star in lethal form.

It was the save from Johnson that drew the most praise from Redknapp. He believes that Forest would have been done and dusted had that moment gone the other way for them.

He told Sky Sports: “That’s unbelievable. It’s a great save and he keeps his team in the game here. It really is top class.”

Forest recruitment team deserve credit for Sels

It was a tough decision for Espirito Santo to decide on another goalkeeper in January when Forest landed both Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos in the summer.

Landing Sels had been brilliant, however. He’s been a vast upgrade on Turner and Vlachodimos and yesterday he was truly inspired between the posts for Forest.

The Forest recruitment team does get bashed. A number of players have been added that have made little or zero impact and ultimately, they have deserved the criticism in certain parts.

However, Sels has been a real find for Forest. He cost just £5 million from Strasbourg and he’s improved the team in every single aspect between the posts.

The goalkeeper kicks well, takes balls out of the sky and he does get himself off of his line far quicker than Turner does, representing a real upgrade in quality.
