Forgotten Forest player assists star who left in 2022 and he could thrive under Nuno - opinion

Nottingham Forest have several players currently out on loan and one of those is forgotten man Omar Richards.

The 26-year-old has yet to play forForest since his £8.5 million move from Bayern Munich and was loaned to Olympiacos in the summer.

Forest decided that the player needed game time after arriving at the City Ground with a hairline fracture of his shin that wasn’t picked up during his medical.

Richards was desperately unfortunate last season and after recovering from his fracture, he picked up a hernia that required surgery.

Last summer Forest added Ola Aina to their ranks on a free transfer and with Harry Toffolo already at the club, Richards was deemed surplus.

This past week, the player has caught the eye for something he’s done during his loan spell, so let’s take a look at how he’s getting on.

What Omar Richards did for Olympiacos in latest outing

It’s now Super League play-off season in Greece. The league has been split and now Olympiacos are trying to finish the campaign with a flourish.

Richards was actually handed a start against Aris Saloniki and he helped Olympiacos claim a resounding 3-0 win.

That wasn’t all though and Forest-owned Richards earned himself an assist as he set up former Reds star Joao Carvalho to score.

It was a first goal contribution for Richards in an Olympiacos shirt and he will now be looking to kick on even further and finish the season with some good form.

Fitness has still been an issue for Richards away from Forest. He’s only made nine appearances all season and he will be desperate to remain in the team.

A video has done the rounds following his latest display for Olympiacos fromWT Analysis and he really was in fine form.

Richards can still have a future at Forest

There is definitely a chance that Richards will have a part to play at Forest in the future. He penned a contract until 2026 and there is still time.

Forest have Aina and Toffolo as left-back options, although the former can also operate as a right-back should Nuno Espirito Santo deem that necessary.

Richards has one England under-21 cap to his name and he made 17 appearances for Bayern Munich during the 2021/22 campaign.

It’s hard not to feel sorry for Richards with how his first season at Forest went and in the end, he wasn’t even included in the 25-man squad.

His latest performance for Olympiacos shows, however, that he can produce the goods and it will be fascinating to see what the future holds for Richards at Forest.
