'A strange player': Matt Piper urges 'erratic' Leicester City ace to quickly learn from one teammate

Matt Piper has urged a Leicester City player to improve after his performance against Birmingham City on the weekend.

The East Midlanders picked up back-to-back wins on Saturday as they defeated relegation-threatened Birmingham City 2-1 at King Power Stadium.

Leicester’s talisman Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall put the hosts ahead with a well-struck snapshot before Jay Stansfield levelled for the visitors just before half-time.

Mads Hermansen kicked the ball straight into the onrushing attacker and the ball bounced into the net, leaving the 32,000 fans in attendance stunned.

It left Enzo Maresca‘s side with work to do in the second-half but their endeavour paid off in the 87th minute when Stephy Mavididi headed home Yunus Akgun‘s teasing cross.

It was a well-deserved victory and one that put City back to the summit of the Championship table, following Ipswich Town and Leeds United’s defeats to Norwich City and Coventry City, respectively.

BBC Radio Leicester pundit Matt Piper, speaking after the game, sent a simple demand to one Leicester ace.

Abdul Fatawu was a constant outlet down the right-hand side, as he has been for much of the campaign. Though, Piper has urged him to improve his final product.

“He’s such a strange player because he’s very sporadic, he can make things happen and can get into some really nice areas,” the former Leicester winger said.

“I thought he started the game really well, has to work on his final product, clearly. He rushes it, I think his heart rate goes through the roof as soon as he does something really good.

“It makes him very erratic, he lashed a couple today into the stadium. He overhit numerous amounts of underlaps from Wilfred Ndidi.”

He also noted that he could learn from Yunus, who came on in his place to assist the winning goal.

“He could look at people like Yunus and just that calmness on the ball,” Piper added.

Abdul Fatawu still has a lot to learn

Fatawu only celebrated his 20th birthday last month, so naturally, he is still learning and developing in every game.

The jet-heeled winger has netted just three league goals this campaign, which admittedly, could’ve been a lot more had a few of his efforts not thundered off the woodwork.

As Piper alluded to, it’s the rash nature of his end product that can sometimes creep in, especially after taking on a few players.

It’s almost as if he gets too excited at his previous good work, so players like Yunus should be helping him to polish that side of his game.

If Fatawu can improve in that area, he has the ceiling to be a real danger in the Premier League, if City are to gain promotion.
