Daka axed & 27-year-old given first start in 5 months: Predicted Leicester City XI v Birmingham

Leicester return to action this weekend as they prepare to play host to relegation-threatened Birmingham City at King Power Stadium.

Enzo Maresca‘s side secured a 3-1 victory against Norwich City on Easter Monday and silenced a lot of critics who had been doubting their character.

After going a goal behind in the clash, Leicester displayed real grit to turn it around and they remain firmly in the hunt for a top-two finish.

With league leaders Ipswich Town two points clear, they can’t afford to drop points on Saturday and must continue their momentum heading into the business end of the season.

Kasey McAteer has been sidelined since the defeat at Leeds United back in February due to a recurring hamstring injury and there has been no timeline on his return.

Ben Nelson and Tom Cannon picked up knocks over the international break, though, they could make the squad against the visiting Blues.

Maresca, speaking ahead of the Bristol City clash, issued an update on the pair: “Then Ben Nelson is injured from the national team and Tom Cannon got an injury during the international break.

“It’s a short injury (for Cannon). For sure he’s out for Bristol City and Norwich, but he could be back for Birmingham. (For Nelson), it could be a short injury,” the Italian head coach added.

Leicester City predicted XI v Birmingham City

Mads Hermansen, the ever-present, is expected to assume his usual role in between the sticks.

In front of the Dane, we could see one of the centre-backs rested, perhaps Wout Faes for Ben Nelson or Conor Coady.

Callum Doyle was brilliant against Norwich and his exceptional cross-field diagonals were really useful in the attacking phase, so he’ll likely retain his place at left-back over James Justin.

Moving into midfield, a trio of Wilfred Ndidi, Harry Winks and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is expected to be named.

That is, without doubt, the strongest midfield line-up at the club, with all three players possessing different traits.

Up top, Patson Daka could be dropped to the bench with Kelechi Iheanacho making his first start since December.

The 27-year-old has hardly featured this year but has impressed in the few cameo appearances he has been granted.

Out wide, Stephy Mavididi and Abdul Fatawu have been fixtures of Maresca’s side this term and that isn’t expected to change, here.

Leicester XI (4-3-3): Hermansen; Pereira, Coady, Vestergaard, Doyle; Ndidi, Winks, Dewsbury-Hall; Fatawu, Iheanacho and Mavididi.
