This status entitles TV channels, among other things, to reserve some of their employees from mobilization. According to the government's reservation procedure, more than 50% of employees of enterprises important to the country can receive a deferral from the draft.

United News telethon rating drop and possible format change

The Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) published in October the results of a survey according to which Ukrainians' trust in the telethon has sharply decreased: from 69% to 48% in six months.

The newly appointed chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Freedom of Speech, Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, said on Dec. 9, 2023, that the effectiveness of the national telethon United News UA Razom is currently in question.

KIIS published on Dec. 28 the results of a new poll, according to which trust in the telethon has decreased by another 26% since May 2023. The share of those who trust the marathon has dropped to 43%.

The acting Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, Rostyslav Karandieiev, said in early January 2024 that leading Ukrainian TV channels were considering changing the format of the United News telethon.

The international organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF) called on the Ukrainian government on Feb. 6 to close the United News telethon, which has lost public trust and relevance two years after the start of the full-scale war. RSF noted that the audience of the marathon has decreased to 10%, trust has decreased, and the authorities are increasingly criticizing this format of information presentation.
