'Baffling to me': Eric Dier simply can't understand what he's heard said Daniel Levy now

Eric Dier has now been reacting to what he’s been hearing said about Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy recently.

Daniel Levy has been Tottenham chairman since he replaced Alan Sugar in 2001, now the long-serving boss in the Premier League.

Of course, Eric Dier’s long stint at Spurs was all under Levy’s stewardship, a relationship that seems very strong to this day.

And whilst it seems it was made pretty clear to Dier that he was welcome to leave the club last summer, it doesn’t appear as if any bridges have been burnt.

And in actual fact, Dier was quick to leap to Levy’s defence when speaking with Gary Neville on The Overlap recently.

Now at Bayern Munich, Dier is set to face Tottenham’s rivals Arsenal in the Champions League tonight.

And there will surely be many of a Spurs persuasion tuning into the match, hoping Harry Kane and co can put a real dent in Arsenal’s season.

And whilst Dier did speak about that tie at length in his interview, he was also keen to set the record straight on Levy’s tenure too.

Eric Dier says Daniel Levy is doing a fantastic job as Tottenham chairman

Levy has often been criticised of late for putting too much focus on the business side of things, rather than achievements on the pitch.

And whilst Dier seemed to admit that things could have gone better on the pitch, he certainly didn’t want to criticise his former chairman.

He explained: “When I see the way people talk about the chairman it’s a bit baffling to me when it comes to like, he takes such good care of that club, you know, from a business point of view.

“He takes such good care of that, you never see Tottenham in like a Financial Fair Play discussion, and they built a new stadium, a new training ground, I think they have the best infrastructure in the world in terms of football.

“And then obviously on a football side we can spend a few Overlaps discussing it because I was there a long time and we went through many different kinds of regimes, we had the Pochettino era and then the different managers who came after that.”

Of course, Tottenham fans will now be hoping that the Ange Postecoglou era can be the one where the balance is just right.

Given Spurs’ strong financial position, it seems as if they are set for heavy investment this summer, when they perhaps will look to properly replace Harry Kane.

And that being said, Eric Dier also recently made an interesting claim about Ange Postecoglou’s training sessions at Tottenham.
