Sheffield Wednesday star has achieved something 'pretty remarkable' at Hillsborough - journalist

The Star journalist Joe Crann is a man with his finger on the pulse when it comes to Sheffield Wednesday Football Club. Now, he’s raved about one of Danny Rohl’s current crop of stars ahead of tonight’s game with Norwich.

The Owls claimed a superb win at QPR on Saturday. The 2-0 win saw Wednesday edge closer to safety in the Championship and a return to home soil tonight is something that the team will be relishing.

Wednesday have been pretty good since Rohl came to Hillsborough. He’s given a hapless-looking team when he came in a fighting chance and quite simply, they just have to keep winning.

After tonight, there will be just five games remaining of the second-tier season. Wednesday will hope to get themselves above the dotted line and survive from what felt like an impossible position a few months ago.

One man who will be in action tonight is captain Barry Bannan. Ahead of tonight’s game, Crann has raved about something the skipper has done at Wednesday and he believes he’s a special player.

Joe Crann raves about Sheffield Wednesday star Barry Bannan

Well, the midfielder’s stock will always be quite high with the Wednesday faithful. He’s been at the club for several years now and he’s worshipped by the club’s supporters.

Perhaps worryingly, Bannan is out of contract in the summer and at the moment nothing appears to be forthcoming from Wednesday in that regard.

Crann actually believes that Bannan has gone against the grain with one aspect since he came to Wednesday, given that he’s hardly ever missed games through injury.

His tweet suggests the player’s appearances at the club are quite ‘remarkable’ when you consider the injury record of the football club since he arrived in 2015.

Bannan has made 40 appearances for the Owls so far this season and with three more outings, he will bring up 400 appearances for the club.

Bannan goes down as a modern day legend

At 34-years-old, there is a notion that Wednesday will look at alternatives for Bannan in the summer. However, if a deal can be struck between the two parties, the club should definitely offer their talismanic captain a new contract.

If Wednesday go down, their cloth might have to be cut accordingly. Bannan has been pretty decent in the Championship this season and it’s clear that he’d still be capable of doing a job in League One if a worst-case scenario takes place.

There is a big decision for Wednesday to make involving Bannan here. Ultimately, it’s going to be very unpopular if a modern-day legend is just allowed to walk away and Dejphon Chansiri has to act and look after the midfielder.
