Oliver Glasner now wants Crystal Palace to sign a player who actually caught his eye in the Bundesliga – during the Austrian’s time in charge of Eintracht Frankfurt and VfL Wolfsburg.
The 49-year-old and Dougie Freedman have already admitted that plans are being drawn up ahead of the summer transfer window, as we aim to move on from this underwhelming 2023/24 campaign.
Interestingly, the man born in Salzburg has apparently asked Crystal Palace to sign Sporting CP No.10 Marcus Edwards this summer – according to A Bola in Portugal.

Well – in our view – the theme of Freedman’s summer recruitment will be Bundesliga, whether that be the German Bundesliga or the Austrian Bundesliga.
We have actually already been linked to a few players in Austria’s top-flight.
In this instance – however – the focus is on Germany.
A story from Football Insider states that Glasner wants Danilho Doekhi at Selhurst Park, having been left impressed by the Union Berlin No.5 when facing him in Germany’s top-flight.
It is said that Freedman is already plotting a move for the Dutchman, although Fulham are also interested.
Glasner is believed to be a huge admirer of Doekhi, who could end up replacing Joachim Andersen or Marc Guehi this summer if a significant offer arrives for either of the defensive duo.
The 25-year-old has made 18 appearances in the Bundesliga this season, scoring two goals while also captaining Union Berlin on two occasions.
Who is Danilho Doekhi?
Well, if Freedman manages to sign Doekhi, we might actually become more of a force from corners.
The 6ft 3in central defender impressively scored six goals in 36 appearances last season, and is regarded as a genuine aerial threat in Germany.
To reinforce that point, the Bundesliga’s official website have even compared Doekhi to Liverpool No.4 Virgil van Dijk – one of the most physically dominant defenders on the planet.
When elaborating on that bold comparison, the Bundesliga state that the man from Rotterdam is also a superb passer of the ball, like the Netherlands international.
That is particularly important, as whoever ends up replacing Guehi or Andersen – if one does depart – has to be able to match their quality in possession.
