Report: Player Aston Villa sold for just £3m is now worth millions more, wanted by Premier League clubs

Aston Villa have recruited very well since returning to the Premier League under Dean Smith back in 2019.

The Villans have snapped up gems such as Ollie Watkins, Leon Bailey, Douglas Luiz and Emiliano Martinez – to name just a few – and are now fighting for UEFA Champions League qualification.

However – as is often the case with many clubs – Aston Villa have made a few risky decisions in the market too, with one now potentially coming back to haunt those at Villa Park…

Player Aston Villa sold for peanuts now wanted by Premier League clubs

Well – back in July 2022 – Aston Villa agreed to sell Mahmoud Trezeguet to Trabzonspor for just £3m.

The Villans signed the Egypt international for £9m in July 2019 – but decided to get rid after he scored just nine goals in 64 appearances.

Now – however – Trezeguet could be coming back to these shores, where he may potentially look to show Aston Villa they were wrong to discard him.

A story by Turkish news outlet 61 Trabzon Haber claims that the Trabzonspor No.10 is now valued at €15m (£13m) – £10m more than what Aston Villa sold him for – with a number of Premier League clubs keeping tabs on his situation.

It comes after Trezeguet scored 11 goals in 23 appearances so far this season – while also providing four assists.

Trezeguet sale is the nature of the game

Of course, if Trezeguet does come back to England and ends up proving to be a thorn in Aston Villa’s side, many will be quick to talk about his departure to Trabzonspor in July 2022.

However, decisions like that sale are part and parcel of growing as a football club.

Arsenal – to give one example – had to make a series of expensive moves when terminating the contracts of Mesut Ozil, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Shkodran Mustafi and Sead Kolasinac, in order to develop under Mikel Arteta.

Aubameyang is now shining for Marseille in France, but Arsenal are not exactly regretting that decision to let him go as the Gunners sit top of the Premier League.

The same can be said of Trezeguet – Aston Villa will be gutted if the Egyptian comes back to haunt them, but as things stand, the likes of Moussa Diaby and Bailey are doing just fine, as they aim to push the Villans into the UEFA Champions League.
