Crystal Palace could soon solve one of Oliver Glasner's biggest problems as rumour emerges - opinion

The latest rumour emerging out of Crystal Palace could be something that solves a huge current issue at the club.

For Oliver Glasner, this season was always going to be used more for him to work out what he needs to improve this summer.

If he’s been making a list, it’ll be a pretty long one, with multiple positions requiring attention, sales to be made and players leaving for free to replace.

But the list will be more than just positions, with fitness and corner problems also needing attention before August and the start of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.

For Crystal Palace, this will be a vital summer to fix these problems, but now Glasner might be about to be handed a fix to one of the biggest problems.

What is Oliver Glasner’s big problem at Crystal Palace right now

For Crystal Palace, there is one significant problem which long predates Glasner’s arrival.

More accurately it dates back to March 12th 2023, which is the last time the Eagles scored directly from a corner.

This has seen 214 attempts from corners with no goal to shout about.

It is a stretch dating back 42 games which is a pretty ridiculous amount of time considering the quality of set piece taker and also the fact there are some proper aerial threats in the team.

The problem from corners isn’t exclusive to an attacking sense either, as defensively it’s also a bad state.

Only Aston Villa, Arsenal and Burnley have conceded goals at a higher level per 100 corners, according to The Athletic.

Now though, it looks possible Dougie Freedman could hand Glasner a fix for this issue.

The potential fix for this issue comes in the form of 25-year-old Union Berlin defender Danilho Doekhi.

The 6ft 3in defender has been likened to Virgil van Dijk for his substantial aerial presence and has now been linked with a move to Selhurst Park.

The big defender is lethal from corners in an offensive sense but also perfectly capable of defending well aerially at the back.

From this it’s clear to see just how impressive an aerial dominator is, and that he could go a long way in solving the problems Palace have.

Eight goals from corners in two seasons is something Palace could desperately use.
