‘Out of his depth’: Jamie Carragher says £20m Arsenal player was all over the place vs Bayern

Arsenal didn’t get the result they would’ve wanted against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The Gunners struggled against Bayern Munich. For a long time they trailed in the game, and while they rescued a draw through Leandro Trossard, they head into the second-leg of this match facing an uphill battle away from home.

Indeed, Bayern Munich, as poor as they have been this season, are a tough nut to crack away from home.

Arsenal will come away from that first-leg with plenty of regrets, and speaking on CBS, Jamie Carragher has been highlighted one player who he thinks didn’t cover themselves in glory on the day.

Jamie Carragher criticises Arsenal player

Carragher spoke on CBS about this game, and he stated that Jakub Kiwior looked out of his depth during the match.

“The arrogance, the confidence, the ability to do that. Leroy Sane down this side, he was too much for Kiwior, he had to go off at half-time, he was out of his depth in that first-half, but that run is out of this world, they look like they’re drunk,” Carragher said.

Hard to blame Jakub Kiwior

Carragher is right, Kiwior did look out of his depth on Tuesday evening, but it’s hard to really blame him.

This is the first time Kiwior has played in a game of this magnitude, and he was playing out of position.

Indeed, while Kiwior has been fantastic at left-back recently, the reality is that he’s a centre-half by trade, and playing against a team like Bayern Munich who have so much wide talent is such a difficult task when you’re not necessarily used to playing in this position.

Kiwior has been brilliant in recent weeks, and while he wasn’t as strong against Bayern, we can’t point the finger at the £20m man too much.
