Mauricio Pochettino should now look to start 20-year-old Chelsea player vs Everton on Monday - opinion

Chelsea’s hopes of finishing in the European places ahead of next season is fading by the week as the Premier League reaches it’s final stages of the season.

Mauricio Pochettino is under a lot of pressure in his place as manager of the club right now, with some sections of the fanbase never actually taking a liking to him in the first place.

There have not been too many shining lights that supporters tend to agree is actually a promising part of the club right now.

One has definitely been Cole Palmer, however there is certainly a player with far less gametime who fans are big admirers of.

Carney Chukwuemeka has missed a large section of this campaign due to injury, however it is clear to see at the beginning of the season he was somewhat of a favourite for Pochettino.

The young Englishman started the first two games of the season, scoring his first goal for the club against West Ham moments before being forced off.

Carney Chukwuemeka deserves a start

He has sincefound the net during his return in a big moment in the FA Cup quarter-final against Leicester City, although this is yet to be rewarded with a start since.

With the return to Premier League action on Monday against Everton, the game presents the perfect opportunity for the 20-year-old to make a rare start.

There are currently no guarantees over the future of Conor Gallagher at Stamford Bridge, and even though he has been crucial this season, the Blues will perhaps have to look to building a squad that does not involve him.

It feels as if Chukwuemeka can operate in this role effectively, and is certainly showing promising signs in his development at an early age.
