Gary Lineker says Arsenal have a 'wonderfully talented' player he’d take over Chelsea's Cole Palmer

England are blessed with so many talented young players at the moment.

From Kobbie Mainoo and Jude Bellingham to Jarell Quansah and Harvey Elliott, the future looks bright for the Three Lions.

However, perhaps the most talented trio of youngsters coming through right now are a trifecta of attacking midfielders making a huge impact in the Premier League.

Indeed, Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka and Cole Palmer are all on the verge of superstar status, and speaking on The Rest is Football, Gary Lineker and Micah Richards have been discussing how these three players match up against each other.

Phil Foden vs Bukayo Saka vs Cole Palmer

Lineker and Richards were taking part in a game of ‘buy bench or sell?’ And they discussed these three stars.

“Buy, bench or sell: Saka, Foden or Palmer? Who wants to go first?” Lineker asked.

“They’re all wonderfully talented, gifted players who we all love.”

“I’ll go first, I’ll set the standard, buy Foden, bench Saka and sell Palmer, that’s what I’ll go with,” Richards said.

“I’ll go along with that as well. But it makes me feel queezy to put Saka on the bench and sell Palmer, who would want to sell a player that good? Only Man City would do something so stupid,” Lineker said.

Cole Palmer is getting there

At the moment, the ranking that Lineker and Richards have gone for is probably right.

Foden has won all of the trophies and is smashing it for Man City, Bukayo Saka is established for England and potentially carrying Arsenal to a title, while, with all due respect, Palmer is simply the best player in a mid-table team.

Palmer is moving in the right direction, and in a few years he may well be on the level of Saka or Foden, but right now, he’s a tier or two below the two England stars.
