It looks like one manager will definitely not be in the running to replace Mauricio Pochettino if Chelsea sack him.
Come the summer, Chelsea may want to go their separate ways with Mauricio Pochettino.
The club would have been expecting big things from the Argentine when they hired him after his time at London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Under Pochettino, Tottenham were able to compete for the Premier League title and become Champions League regulars.
However, with the 52-year-old at the helm, Chelsea have been a mid-table team, finding themselves ninth in the standings at present.Alan Pardew recently defended Pochettino, claiming that Chelsea as a whole are a mess.
Talks did not go well with ‘outstanding’ manager last time
Before Chelsea appointed Pochettino, naturally, the club considered other managers.
If things do not improve between now and the end of the season, the Blues could be on the lookout for a new head coach once again.
Julian Nagelsmann was one of those managers who Chelsea thought about when they were trying to replace Graham Potter, but journalist Simon Phillips says he would be “shocked” if the German came back into the equation again given how bad talks went last time.
Discussing the Germany manager on his Substack Si Phillips Talks Chelsea, Phillips said: “I’d be shocked if Chelsea turned to him again, and I’d be shocked if he even considered Chelsea again. The talks just didn’t go well at all last summer, so what would have changed now to make that any different?”
Nagelsmann has been described as an “outstanding” coach by Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich.
Should Chelsea try again with Julian Nagelsmann?
If they sack Pochettino, then they have to. He could be perfect for them.
Nagelsmann won the Bundesliga with Bayern, something Thomas Tuchel is going to fail to do this season, and is now Germany manager.
He has worked with some big players and has shown that he can win trophies.
Ultimately, Nagelsmann is definitely a manager Chelsea should consider appointing, though that is unlikely to happen for multiple reasons.
