Liverpool want to sign 19-year-old wonderkid who’s a mix between Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri

Liverpool are already reportedly making some moves behind the scenes in the upcoming transfer window.

Although they still don’t know the identity of who will succeed Jurgen Klopp as manager, the Reds at least now have a recruitment structure in place.

And with new sporting director Richard Hughes said to be an ‘elite level operator,’ it seems likely that Liverpool will be unearthing a few gems in the near future.

Which players are targeted will of course be in part dependent on who the new manager is. With Ruben Amorim the current favourite to be in the Anfield dugout next season, we’ve already taken a look at who his first signing could be.

Nevertheless, other players will be targeted too. And according to some rumours today, Liverpool are looking at a player who’s being compared to Man City stars Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri.

Liverpool interested in Hugo Larsson

To earn these kind of comparisons, you’ve got to be some player. In terms of midfielders, De Bruyne and Rodri are two of the very best around right now.

So, for Liverpool fans, there should be a certain excitement in seeing website Football Transfers link the Reds to Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Larsson.

Despite being only 19, Larsson is building himself quite the reputation already. With four senior caps to his name, the teenager is a full Sweden international and a first-team regular at Eintracht. This has inevitably started to turn the heads of richer clubs than the Germans.

And according to Football Transfers, interest is now coming from the Premier League. They claim that Tottenham and Newcastle join Liverpool in ‘looking at’ Larsson.

The midfielder’s agent is already reportedly ‘engaged in discussions’ with several sides over a move this summer.

Unfortunately for Liverpool, Spurs are said to be the team currently leading the race for Larsson. Claimed to be looking for a box-to-box midfielder in the shape of Rodrigo Bentancur, the Swede has reportedly caught Ange Postecoglou’s eye.

Who does Hugo Larsson play like

Obviously, comparisons to De Bruyne and Rodri are incredibly lofty for such a young player, but bundesliga.com do their best to justify the likeness.

They claim that Larsson is an ‘expert breaker-up-of-play’ who’s ability to break the lines with passes, as well as his tall frame, make him a good ringer for Rodri.

In terms of De Bruyne, Larsson’s ‘close control and skilfulness’ is said to have ‘notes’ of the Belgian superstar. If one player can have all of that rolled into one, then he’s sure to be a success wherever he goes.

With Liverpool potentially in the market for a defensive midfielder again this summer, we’d certainly be keeping an eye on Larsson. Expectations may need to be tempered a touch, though.
