Mehrdad Ghoudoussi has just shared his reaction after Newcastle's groundbreaking announcement

Newcastle United will wear black and white against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, but their shirt will look a little different.

The Magpies’ kits have been sponsored by Sela all season after the Saudi Arabian brand replaced FUN88 as the club’s shirt sponsor last summer, but their logo will not be on the Newcastle United shirt this weekend.

That is because Sela are going to donate their sponsorship slot to charity for the game against Spurs.

Instead of the Sela branding, the Newcastle players’ shirts will have ‘RNID’ on them, which stands for Royal National Institute for Deaf People. They will also take Sela’s place as the pitch-side sponsor.

This coincides with the launch of special haptic shirts, which will allow fans whose hearing is impaired to experience the game through ‘real-time touch sensation’ via the shirts based on the atmosphere inside St James’ Park.

It is an incredible and groundbreaking initiative, with sponsors Sela leading the charge.

The haptic shirt will be used for the first time this weekend against Tottenham Hotspur, and Toon co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi has expressed his delight following the announcement.

He has taken to X to provide his reaction, writing: “It’s been a pleasure watching this come to fruition.”

Sela have done a lot for Newcastle United fans so far

Newcastle are earning £25million-a-year thanks to this partnership with Sela, and the events company have made a major impression since their arrival on Tyneside.

Their drone show at St James’ Park before the club’s first home game in the Champions League was stunning, and served as a real reminder of the grand stage that Newcastle deservedly found themselves on.

Sela also provided Toon fans with scarves for the Tyne-Wear derby win over Sunderland, and they were waved proudly as Alexander Isak put the ball in the Mackems’ net on two occasions.

The Saudi company also recently put on an away bus for supporters travelling to Chelsea, where Eddie Howe’s side sadly lost 3-2. They also sponsored a pre-season at St James’ Park last summer, and that is expected to take place again this year.
