'One hundred per cent': Journalist makes 'nailed on' prediction amid Sheffield Wednesday relegation battle

Journalist Dom Howson thinks one thing is ‘nailed on’ to happen as Sheffield Wednesday look to avoid relegation.

Sheffield Wednesday kept their hopes of avoiding the drop alive midweek, as they fought back to claim a point against Norwich City.

The Owls could have been all but doomed if they weren’t able to bounce back from conceding twice early on, and if Huddersfield Town had retained their lead over Preston North End.

However, both results swiftly turned in their favour and they now sit in the bottom three only on goal difference.

Defeats on Wednesday for Birmingham, Blackburn and Stoke left them in a very good position, meaning that there is now only five points between 16th and 23rd place in the Championship table.

One win could see the Owls move as high as 18th this weekend, but defeat could leave them desperate for luck in the final three games.

One thing is now ‘nailed on’ for Sheffield Wednesday

With the bottom of the table looking unbelievably tight, journalist Dom Howson has claimed one thing is ‘nailed on’ to happen now.

Writing on X, Howson said: “The perfect night for #htafc and #SWFC in the fight to avoid the drop. Every result went their way. It is one hundred per cent going to the last day. Nailed on.”

The relegation battle currently appears to be between a whopping eight teams with only four matches to go – meaning Sheffield Wednesday have a perfectly good chance of saving their status this month.

It does seem highly unlikely that anything can be confirmed before the last day given the vast amount of teams that are involved, but that amount of teams could certainly be cut down – which the Owls will be hoping to do.

That will depend on how they can perform in their fixtures before then, and what other teams’ final run-in looks like.

Sheffield Wednesday’s chances of staying up could really come down to their next two fixtures, as they are facing two of the eight teams that are currently in a relegation battle.

Blackburn arguably have the toughest run out of the lot, while Rovers, QPR, Huddersfield and Birmingham could all be in big trouble if it goes down to the last day, with their opponents vying for the league title and play-off spots.

Meanwhile, the Owls will be visiting Wearside, where Sunderland have nothing to play for.
