Graham Roberts says Daniel Levy needs to give ‘different class’ Tottenham summer signing a new contract already

Tottenham Hotspur legend Graham Roberts has admitted he thinks there is already one summer signing who needs a new contract.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side are now going into their game on the weekend against Newcastle United in fourth spot.

Tottenham took all three points from their game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday against Nottingham Forest.

And that saw Spurs finally capitalise on Aston Villa’s dropped points in their game against Brentford on Saturday.

The trip up north to St. James’ Park provided Spurs with one of their darkest days in a long time as Cristian Stellini’s side were torn apart in a 6-1 mauling.

However, there should be a lot more optimism going into the game this weekend with Eddie Howe’s side depleted through injury and not quite looking the side they were this time last year.

Having said that, the Toon are also coming into the game in decent form having won two of their last three league games.

But there were a number of positive performances put in by those in lilywhite yesterday with the likes of Micky van de Ven and Timo Werner both impressing.

It will be pleasing for all in north London to see their recruitment over the last two windows bearing fruit with the majority of the business done looking to be a success.

Graham Roberts wowed by player who only joined in the summer

A number of Tottenham’s young players have been handed extended contracts this season due to their impressive displays.

Both Pape Matar Sarr and Destiny Udogie have been rewarded on the back of their performances under Postecoglou.

The pair are now have contracts running through until 2030 and have been put on higher salaries.

But it seems there is another youngster who has impressed Roberts enough to see him rewarded with an improved deal already.

Van de Ven signed in the summer for £43m from Wolfsburg and he has transformed this Spurs backline.

Having already been clocked as the fastest player in Premier League history, Van de Ven has allowed Spurs to play with an aggressively high backline.

The Lilywhites signed Van de Ven on a six-year deal which was the longest deal handed out since the signing of Tanguy Ndombele in 2019.

Unlike Ndombele, Van de Ven is already impressing in north London and has even been compared to Virgil van Dijk by Jamie Carragher.

And his display on Sunday had Roberts calling out for a new deal to be handed out to the 22-year-old on X.

‘Holbjerg & Bentacur. Were the difference in the second half calm on the ball and breaking Forest attacks up Van de Ven different class we should sign him for longer contract,’ he said.

‘On to next Saturday at Newcastle see you fantastic fans there Coys.’

Van de Ven reveals what he thought when Son passed him the ball

The stunning strike scored by the Dutchman was his first on home soil for the 22-year-old and only his second in a Spurs shirt.

His only other goal came in the 1-0 victory away to Luton Town earlier in the season. Speaking to the club’s media, Van de Ven shared what thought when he saw the ball coming to him.

“Sonny had the ball and, to be honest, I thought he was going to shoot. Then he played it to me and I was like, ‘for sure in front of my left foot because if it was my right I know what would’ve happened [miss].’

“I saw the near corner open and I thought, ‘now I bang it!’ My family was at the game. Very special, it was an amazing moment.”
