'Pressure': BBC pundit says 27-year-old Everton player might need to leave, he doesn't look happy

BBC Sport pundit Michael Brown has suggested one Everton player might need to leave Goodison Park this summer.

Evertonians are fully aware of their side’s goalscoring issues this season. The Toffees’ lack of potency has seen impressive defensive performances muster very little in the way of points.

Beto has been a largely disappointing addition, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin has once again struggled with injury and poor form.

Despite the 27-year-old recently hitting the goal trail, Brown believes a move away from Goodison Park cannot be ruled out.

Writing in his latest column for BBC Sport, Brown has suggested the 27-year-old isn’t at the top of his game despite scoring in Everton’s last two matches.

“Dominic Calvert-Lewin is not on top of his game right now, he still seems to have the cloud hanging over him around injuries,” he said.

“I know Dyche’s assistant manager, Ian Woan, and he loves crosses and finishing. He had a wonderful left foot, and it was one of his favourite sessions out on the training pitch, so he will be working with them on their finishing. But sometimes you can just be not in a happy place.”

Brown suggested that leaving Goodison Park might be best if he wishes to progress his career.

He explained: “Calvert-Lewin has been at the club for such a long period of time, and he might be carrying around a little stigma about the situation and have a bit of pressure weighing on his shoulders. Maybe it does need a bit of support for him, or maybe he needs to go play his football somewhere else.”

Ian Wright says Everton striker Dominic Cavlert-Lewin has ‘everything’

It’s been an extremely frustrating couple of years for the former England international. His performances under Carlo Ancelotti gave Evertonians a taste of what he’s capable of.

Brown does have a point. In recent years, Calvert-Lewin has probably been a victim of the club’s downward spiral. He could have reached the next level if he had been playing with high-calibre players.

The 27-year-old’s form hasn’t gone unnoticed. Ian Wright praised the Englishman on Match of the Day last week.

He explained: “You’re just hoping for his sake that he can get that run of real good fitness because he’s somebody that, when he’s playing he gives you everything as a striker, link play.

“That was close. What you look at Muric, at the goal, it’s as if he can’t see Calvert-Lewin coming, it’s as if he’s got Harry Potter’s invisible coat on or something.”
