Liverpool fans are set for a summer of huge change this year, with Jurgen Klopp leaving Anfield after nine years on Merseyside and Michael Edwards now back in a new CEO of Football role.
It will be a shock to the system of some supporters, who have not seen anyone else in the dugout other than the German since Brendan Rodgers back in 2015.
There are also doubts about the futures of some players – Thiago Alcantara is one who may have already kicked his final ball for Liverpool.
However – according to rumours in Turkey – one player is definitely going to leave Liverpool with Jurgen Klopp this summer…
Joel Matip set to leave Liverpool
Well – according to Sabah in Turkey – Joel Matip will leave Liverpool this summer.
The Liverpool No.32’s contract expires in July, and while Klopp claimed the defender could still have a future at Anfield back in December, the Turkish news outlet believe a decision has now been made.
Sabah claim Liverpool have chosen not to offer Matip a contract extension, and the 32-year-old will become a free agent when his current terms expire.
The Bochum-born defender’s agent is already working hard to find his client a new club, with Sabah also mentioning that Fenerbahce have been offered his services.
However, the Turkish giants are said to want to see Matip’s medical records before agreeing to any deal, as he has been sidelined since December after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament.
The Cameroon international has only made 14 appearances this season, and after the emergence of Jarell Quansah, Liverpool are now happy to let the man Virgil van Dijk called “incredible” depart.
Goncalo Inacio could replace the 32-year-old
Incidentally, Liverpool have already been strongly linked with one central defender as Matip heads for the exit door.
A story from Sports Zone claimed that Liverpool have been offered the chance to sign Sporting CP No.25 Goncalo Inacio this summer.
Then, a report from Jornal de Noticias stated that Ruben Amorim – the hot favourite to replace Klopp – wants to bring the Portugal international with him to Anfield.
Therefore, Inacio could well be the man to replace Matip this summer.
