'Quality': Cesc Fabregas now says he thinks Arsenal have made a 'fantastic' signing

Cesc Fabregas has now said that he thinks Arsenal have made a fantastic signing.

The Spaniard has been speaking about Arsenal’s rise under Mikel Arteta, admitting that he is surprised by just how quickly his fellow countryman has transformed the Gunners.

Arsenal were in a real mess when the 42-year-old took over from Unai Emery in December 2019, finishing eighth in the Premier League that season, but the north Londoners are now among the best sides in Europe.

Not only is Cesc Fabregas impressed by Arsenal and Mikel Arteta in general, but he has also paid tribute to Edu‘s recruitment in his role as Director of Football…

Cesc Fabregas thinks Arsenal have made a fantastic signing

Well, the 36-year-old has now hailed the signing of Declan Rice.

Fabregas claims that he already knew the England international was ready to join an elite side during his time at West Ham, and said the Arsenal No.41 is exactly what Arteta needed.

The man who made 303 appearances for Arsenal told the Evening Standard: “For me, he was already a proven player.

“You could see for two, three years that he was ready to jump into a big club. It’s all about his quality, but also his personality. I knew straight away this was a fantastic signing. This was exactly what Arsenal needed.”

Of course, Arsenal paid a lot to sign Rice.

That £105m fee represented a club record deal for Arsenal – and also a British record transfer until Chelsea signed Moises Caicedo for £115m later in the window.

Nevertheless, Rice has been so impressive, that we have barely heard anybody even speak about his transfer fee, which is testament to how professional the 25-year-old has been this season.

Another game changer is needed

Arsenal made a transformational signing when bringing Rice to north London – Perry Groves even compared the deal to Liverpool signing Virgil van Dijk, a move which helped turn the Reds into serious competitors.

However, we believe another game changing addition is needed up front.

Football is all about scoring goals, and while Arsenal have done tremendously well to spread them around the side this season, trouble may occur next year if these goals dry up.

Therefore, a ruthless, talismanic figure up front wouldn’t go amiss, and Arteta seems to know that amid reports Edu is lining up an £85.5m bid to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP.

The Sweden international is also wanted by Chelsea, but is believed to prefer Arsenal.

If the Gunners can sign a prolific striker like Gyokeres – who has 36 goals in all competitions this season – Arsenal will surely compete for major honours once again in the 2024/25 campaign.
