Report: Liverpool eager to sign 'incredible' £87m forward this summer regardless of who is in charge

Liverpool’s summer transfer plans could well depend on who the new manager is but FSG will be identifying potential signings anyway.

With Michael Edwards now back at the club and Richard Hughes brought in alongside him, plans will be being made when it comes to summer signings.

Of course, those plans can be ever-changing.

After initially looking like Xabi Alonso might be the man to take over from Jurgen Klopp – and with it a few of his Bayer Leverkusen players following – there is now a search for a new boss.

Ruben Amorim is the man looking most likely to take over.

Whether or not any of his Sporting Lisbon players follow, will have to be seen.

However, when it comes to potential signings regardless of manager, it seems Liverpool could still make a play for one of Alonso’s stars over in Leverkusen.

Liverpool keen on signing Florian Wirtz

According to Football Transfers, Liverpool are admirers of Wirtz along with Manchester City.

The report mentions how there is an eagerness at both clubs for them to sign Wirtz, who has been one of the star performers in the Bundesliga this season.

Wirtz has rattled in an impressive 14 goals and 18 assists this season to help Leverkusen fly to the top of the table and go within touching distance of becoming champions.

Naturally, Bayer would want a big fee to let Wirtz go.

Valued around the £87m mark, Wirtz would be one of the more expensive signings we could see this summer.

Lauded as an ‘incredible’ talent for what he’s producing over in Germany, Wirtz is very much one of the top young players in Europe right now.

Wirtz a potential Mo Salah replacement

There is still no definitive answer around the future of Mo Salah and Liverpool and FSG must have one eye on the future without Salah.

The Liverpool star has been one of the best to ever do it at Anfield but like with all top players, his time at the club will come to an end at some point.

Wirtz, who is only 20, has plenty to offer both now and in terms of being a future superstar.

He very much ticks the boxes of what FSG look for in a player and if Liverpool can pull this one off somehow, then it will be quite the coup.
