Report: Tottenham now want to sign £17m speedster likened to Mo Salah; he's got 22 goals this season

Tottenham Hotspur are enjoying a pretty fruitful season, with a Champions League still very much up for grabs.

Spurs struggled last season, but since Ange Postecoglou took the reins in the summer, they’re quickly returned to the upper tiers of the Premier League.

A combination of great tactics, solid man-management and some shrewd acquisitions in the transfer windows have helped turn Tottenham’s fortunes round.

With the summer transfer window on the horizon, we could see Spurs bring in yet more new arrivals as Postecoglou continues to revamp his squad.

One player Tottenham are now being linked with has been likened to Mohamed Salah and is currently lighting up the Belgian top flight.

Better still, he’s already an experienced international with Africa Cup of Nations player, and could be available for less than £20million.

The player in question is Mohamed Amoura, who plays for Union Saint-Giloise and the Algeria national team.

According to GiveMeSport, Tottenham – as well as West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers – are keeping an eye on the 23-year-old.

Who is Tottenham target Mohamed Amoura?

Born in the Algerian city of Tahir in May 2000, Amoura began his footballing journey with ES Setif in his home country.

In 2021, he moved to Swiss outfit Lugano. According to The National News, teammates soon began calling him “little Salah” in training.

This is because of his speed, his confidence on the ball and for the career parallels with Mohamed Salah.

Both are North African prodigies who joined a Swiss club at a young age, as the Egyptian was by Basel, and going on to have great careers.

Amoura then joined Belgium’s Union SG last year, and he has enjoyed an outstanding maiden season.

To date, he has registered 22 goals and six assists from 39 outings in all competitions. He also played for Algeria at the Africa Cup of Nations this year.

TNN quotes Belgian pundit Philippe Albert as saying about Amoura: “He’s an out-of-the-ordinary player.

“And the key challenge is to preserve the spontaneity in his game. He’s about so much more than just speed. He’s two-footed and has a real poise in his finishing.”

According to Voetbal Belgie, Amoura’s current market value is €10million, but his club wants double that.

Even at £17million, he’d be a bargain for Tottenham, and he has clearly proven himself in Belgium and for his nation.

In addition, at just 23 years of age, Amoura has his whole career ahead of him, so there’s no doubt the Spurs boss will be able to get him to the next level.
