Newcastle United set to be without 13 players through injury for Tottenham game today

Tottenham Hotspur will be coming up against a depleted Newcastle United side later on today at St. James’ Park.

It is a huge game for Ange Postecoglou‘s side in the race for the top four with three points taking them clear of Aston Villa.

However, Tottenham know all too well just how difficult of a place it can prove to be up on Tyneside after last season’s demolition.

But this is a much improved Spurs side who have been bolstered by some terrific additions over the last two transfer windows.

With players like Micky van de Ven, James Maddison and Brennan Johnson in the side now, Spurs look like a real threat for years to come.

Tottenham have had their injury issues this season, but it is probably fair to say today’s opposition have been hit like no other in the Premier League.

There is no room for sympathy in this league, though, and Spurs have to make the most of it and take three points.

Who is injured for Newcastle United ahead of their game against Tottenham?

Injuries have been a real cause for concern for a number of sides this season and Spurs have been one of them.

Over the winter period a number of players were forced out through injury including some big names.

Postecoglou has seen a lot of those players now return with only Richarlison proving a big absence from the starting XI.

The only other two injury concerns for Spurs are two long-term ones to Manor Solomon and Ryan Sessegnon who both appear to be done for the season.

However, what has happened up on Tyneside is something absolutely incredible when it comes to injuries.

You only have to look at their recent game against West Ham which saw numerous players fall through injury.

And the reality of their injury woes has been revealed ahead of the game against Spurs on Saturday as Newcastle will be without 13 of their first-team players, according to The Shields Gazette.

Here is a list of all the players who will be missing…

  • Nick Pope
  • Kieran Trippier
  • Tino Livramento
  • Sven Botman
  • Jamaal Lascelles
  • Matt Targett
  • Sandro Tonali
  • Joelinton
  • Joe Willock
  • Lewis Miley
  • Miguel Almiron
  • Callum Wilson
  • Lewis Hall – did not train this week

Ange Postecoglou issues Spurs warning despite Newcastle injuries

Newcastle may have a huge amount of their players missing on Saturday but they will remain a real threat.

Reported Tottenham target Alexander Isak is still featuring up top for them and he has been in fine form this season with 15 goals – the same as Heung-min Son – in the Premier League.

And it is apparent Postecoglou feels his side will have to be at it despite Newcastle’s injury woes.

“When I watch them, particularly at home, they’re still a very, very good side. I think the crowd gives them a lot of energy irrespective of who they put out there, and the games, irrespective of who they play against, tend to be fairly high tempo because of the energy in the stadium,” he said.

“So we’re going to have to match that energy tomorrow, it’s the way we like to play our football as well. Hopefully by bringing our own energy to it we can overcome the challenge, it’s going to be a tough one.”
