Bruno Guimaraes has now sent another message about his future at Newcastle

Newcastle United are facing a difficult summer.

While it will be positive to see Newcastle make some signings after a deathly quiet January transfer window, quite how far the budget stretches under the looming spectre of FFP restrictions remains to be seen.

Eddie Howe, after all, has already predicted it could be a difficult summer for the club – despite the many millions (and perhaps more) that owners PIF have on offer.

Indeed, the club’s star player in Bruno Guimaraes is consistently linked with a move away from St James’ Park.

Things appeared to have ramped up somewhat last week when reports suggested Paris Saint-Germain had grown in confidence about signing the Brazilian international, amid a reported acceptance behind the scenes at Newcastle that he may have to go.

After scoring on his 100 appearance against Fulham on Saturday, Guimaraes insisted he hoped to stay at Newcastle for many years to come.

Now, the Brazilian has reiterated his desire to remain on Tyneside.

Bruno Guimaraes sends new message about Newcastle future

Speaking to Globo Esporte, the 26-year-old said: “I have no thoughts of the future. The present holds 100% of my attention

“I’m very focused on that, on maintaining this dream of the club qualifying for a European competition. I’m happy and I’m happy here. And that’s what I’ve dedicated myself to 100% since I signed for the club.”

Bruno Guimaraes might not be at Newcastle long – but this summer would feel early to leave

At some point, Guimaraes may have to leave, particularly if he wants regular Champions League football.

Still, to leave after this difficult a season would be a great shame.

Leading the team back into European football in some capacity might be a good parting gift but only having him for two full seasons – one of which was decimated by injuries – of the PIF project would feel like a missed opportunity.

One more season to help get Newcastle back into the top four would be a remarkable end to his time on Tyneside.

It’s promising to hear him not pushing for a move but that, sadly, does not mean a lot with a £100m release clause in play.
