Everton have revealed when they anticipate the pitch at the Bramley-Moore Dock stadium to be laid.

Work is now progressing rapidly as the club’sGoodison Park exit hones into view. The plan is to move into their new home at the start of the 2025/26 season.

Evertonians are being handed constant updates on the progress of the dockside build. Last month, the club allowed various media outlets to inspect the stadium and update fans on what’s happening inside the build.

With the stadium taking shape, the club has shared an update on when the pitch will be laid.

Preparatory pitch work has already begun, and an update has been shared on when the club will start laying the pitch.

For Evertonians, seeing grass shoots will make the move from Goodison suddenly feel real.

Ben Williams, package manager for Laing O’Rourke, shared the latest.

“It’s great now that SEL Environmental are on board and this is the initial phase of the works,” he explained [via Everton’s official website].

“They are going through and trimming the top layer of the piling mat and installing all of the pitchside ducting, which gets everything ready for the maintenance and other services around the pitch, including all the cabling for the broadcasters, piping for the irrigation and undersoil heating and below-ground drainage.”

He added: “Once we dig down, we will be on the top of the sand layer and we want to try and keep that segregated from the rest of our system, so there are impermeable membranes to be put down, then the piping of the undersoil heating into the drainage system, making sure it is robust enough and avoiding damaging anything as we go along, because that can be costly to repair at a later stage.”

Williams suggested that the first grass seed be planted around August.

“At the minute, we are just concentrating on the initial stages of those ducting and utility installations. SEL will then return around July to install the root layers, all of the drainage and irrigation and build up the layers, and we’re hoping to start planting grass seed around August time.”

It’s hard to get excited about Everton’s new stadium

Currently, it’s hard to get excited about Everton’s new home. Points deductions and ownership issues have clouded the 2023/24 season.

777 Partners are yet to be granted Premier League approval. Issues centring around their source of funding continue roadblock their attempted takeover.

Journalist Alan Nixon has even suggested that the other investment could emerge. Writing on his Patreon, he said: “Everton super fans Andy Bell and George Downing are ready to make a rescue move to save the club’s future. The duo are keen to strike an agreement with Americans 777 Partners that would see them take over the new ground at Bramley Dock.

“And that would allow 777’s bid for ownership of the club, although they would only become tenants when they eventually leave Goodison.”
