Crystal Palace now unlikely to sign £28m target after what happened at Newcastle today

Dougie Freedman is now unlikely to land one of his targets at Crystal Palace this summer after what happened at Newcastle earlier on Saturday.

The Magpies ran riot as goals from Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon and Fabian Schar secured a comprehensive 4-0 win over Tottenham.

However, the thumping of Spurs from Eddie Howe’s men will have surely irked Dougie Freedman – who has now most likely lost out on the chance to bring an excellent footballer to Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace now unlikely to sign Lewis Hall

Well – according to Alan Nixon – Freedman is keeping a close eye on Lewis Hall.

The England U21 international came incredibly close to joining Crystal Palace on loan in the summer of 2023 – and was even rumoured to have taken official photographs in the shirt – before Newcastle swooped in.

At the time, Newcastle negotiated a unique deal with Chelsea, in which Hall effectively joined on loan, but would sign permanently for £28m if the Magpies finished above 14th in the Premier League.

However, Nixon’s story mentioned that Freedman was still keeping an eye on the situation, with Howe barely using the 19-year-old this season.

Hall – who is friends with Adam Wharton – has made just 12 Premier League appearances this season with only three coming as starts.

Now – however – Newcastle have ensured they will definitely finish above 14th in the Premier League after the resounding win over Tottenham, therefore activating the £28m agreement with Chelsea.

Dougie Freedman could still secure a loan deal

Unless Crystal Palace offer Newcastle a silly amount of money, we highly doubt the Magpies will sell Hall on a permanent basis this summer – despite his lack of playing time.

However, Howe could sanction a temporary deal to get the teenager playing regularly, which might interest Freedman after the Glaswegian secured a loan agreement with Chelsea in the summer, only to see it collapse.

Oliver Glasner could certainly use some competition for Tyrick Mitchell in the left wing-back role.

The Austrian has been seen working hard with the England international on the training pitch, and while the Crystal Palace No.3 has done well, Daniel Munoz has shown just how effective a proper wing-back can be in that role with some truly dynamic performances.

Be sure to keep an eye on Hall’s situation at Newcastle this summer, as a loan to Crystal Palace could happen – although a permanent move now seems impossible.
